FAQs
Common questions
Here are some practical answers about Steady Companion, including appointments, transport, pricing, overnight support, and what our companions can and can’t provide.
About the service
Steady Companion from CaringStay provides calm, practical, non-medical support for people who need someone beside them for appointments, travel, recovery, outings, or getting home safely after treatment.
Our role is to help you feel supported, organised, and reassured — without taking over.
No. Steady Companion is not a nursing agency and does not provide medical treatment.
We provide professional, non-medical companion support. That might include travelling with you, staying with you during an appointment, helping you get home safely, or making sure you are settled afterwards. Lizzie’s material is very clear that the service is about non-medical companions, not clinical care.
Medical Appointments
Yes. We can meet you at home and travel with you, or meet you at the medical facility — whichever works best.
A companion can stay with you during the appointment, offer reassurance, be an extra listening ear, help note down information if you wish, and assist with collecting prescriptions before you return home.
Yes. We can help you navigate clinics and hospitals, walk with you through long corridors, wait with you, and help make the appointment feel less overwhelming.
We can also help coordinate transport and support you through the return journey.
We can help you listen, take notes, and make sure information from medical staff is clearly understood, if you would like us to.
We do not give medical advice or make medical decisions.
Day surgery and hospital support
Yes. We can help you get home safely after a procedure and make sure you are settled comfortably.
That might mean helping you inside, putting the kettle on, helping you find something to eat, or staying with you for the recommended time afterwards.
Yes, overnight support may be available when needed.
Some procedures require someone to stay with you overnight for safety and reassurance. We can provide a calm, attentive presence in your home, help with prescribed after-care instructions, medication reminders, light refreshments, and reassurance during the night.
That is exactly the kind of situation Steady Companion can help with.
If your hospital or clinic recommends that someone collects you, takes you home, or stays with you afterwards, we can help you plan that support.
Transport
NEED TO CONFIRM WORDING
We are transport-independent and can work with whatever suits the client. That may mean travelling by taxi, train, another transport option, or your own car.
The important thing is that the journey feels easy, safe, and well organised.
Yes. Most hospitals and clinics will not allow people to drive themselves home after sedation, because balance, judgement, and reaction times may be affected.
Steady Companion can help plan safe transport home and provide support once you get there.
Getting out and about
Yes. Steady Companion can support you to get out to cafés, museums, movies, shops, scenic places, family events, reunions, graduations, weddings, or other places that matter to you.
The aim is to help you stay connected and keep doing more of life.
Yes, companions can provide practical support such as lending an arm, helping you feel steady, pushing a wheelchair where appropriate, and helping choose easier routes or places without stairs.
Many people lose confidence when mobility, energy, or health changes. Steady Companion is there to provide calm support at your pace, so the outing feels more manageable.
